特性方程式

$3$\displaystyle{f $D$ }$ は微分演算子とする．

微分方程式

$3$\displaystyle{f $D$ y=0}$

において $3$\displaystyle{f $t$ y=0}$ を特性方程式という．

■特性方程式の意味するもの

微分方程式

$3$\displaystyle{f $D$ y=0}$ 　･･････(1)

において $3$\displaystyle{y={e}^{ tx }}$ とおくと

$3$\displaystyle{f $D$ {e}^{ tx }=0}$

$3$\displaystyle{f $t$ {e}^{ tx }=0}$ 　(この公式より)

となる． $3$\displaystyle{{e}^{ tx }\neq 0}$ であるので， $3$\displaystyle{f $t$ =0}$ の方程式の解の1つを $3$\displaystyle{\alpha }$ とすれば $3$\displaystyle{y={e}^{ \alpha x }}$ は(1)の解である．

(1)の左辺に $3$\displaystyle{y={e}^{ \alpha x }}$ を代入するすると

$3$\displaystyle{f\left({D}\right){e}^{ \alpha x }=f\left({\alpha }\right){e}^{ \alpha x }=0}$

∵ $3$\displaystyle{\alpha }$ は $3$\displaystyle{f\left({t}\right)=0}$ の解なので $3$\displaystyle{f\left({\alpha }\right)=0}$

よって， $3$\displaystyle{y={e}^{ \alpha x }}$ は(1)を満たすので(1)の解となる．

■具体例

$3$\displaystyle{{y}^{\prime\prime }+3{y}^{\prime }+2y=0}$

$3$\displaystyle{{D}^{2}y+3Dy+2y=0}$

$3$\displaystyle{ $ {D}^{2}+3D+2 $ y=0}$

ここで $3$\displaystyle{f $D$ ={D}^{2}+3D+2}$ とおくと

$3$\displaystyle{f $D$ y=0}$

特性方程式は

$3$\displaystyle{f $t$ =0}$

すなわち

$3$\displaystyle{{t}^{2}+3t+2=0}$

となる．
