中線定理

三角形 $3$\text{ABC}$ の辺 $3$\text{BC}$ の中点を $3$\text{M}$ とすると

$3$ { \text{AB} }^{\text{2}}+{ \text{AC} }^{\text{2}}=2 $ { \text{AM} }^{\text{2}}+{ \text{BM} }^{\text{2}} $$

である．

【備考】頂点と対辺の中点を結ぶ線分のことを中線という．

■証明

$3$\displaystyle{ {\text{AB}}^{\text{2}}+ {\text{AC}}^{\text{2}} }$

$3$\displaystyle{ = $ {\text{BH}}^{\text{2}}+ {\text{AH}}^{\text{2}} $ + $ {\text{CH}}^{\text{2}}+ {\text{AH}}^{\text{2}} $ }$

$3$\displaystyle{ ={\text{BH}}^{2}+ {\text{CH}}^{2}+ 2{\text{AH}}^{\text{2}} }$

一方

$3$\displaystyle{ {\text{BH}}^{\text{2}}+ {\text{CH}}^{\text{2}} }$

$3$\displaystyle{ ={ $ \text{BM}+ \text{MH} $ }^{2}+ { $ \text{CM}- \text{MH} $ }^{2} }$

$3$\displaystyle{={\text{BM}}^{2}+2\text{BM}\cdot \text{MH}+{\text{MH}}^{2}}$ $3$\displaystyle{+{\text{CM}}^{2}- 2\text{CM}\cdot \text{MH}+{\text{MH}}^{2}}$

$3$\displaystyle{ =2{\text{BM}}^{\text{2}}+ 2{\text{MH}}^{\text{2}} }$

$3$\displaystyle{ $ {}^\bullet\limits{ }_\bullet {}^\bullet \text{BM}=\text{CM} $ }$

したがって

$3$\displaystyle{{\text{AB}}^{\text{2}}+{\text{AC}}^{\text{2}}}$ $3$\displaystyle{=2{\text{BM}}^{2}+2{\text{MH}}^{2}+2{\text{AH}}^{2}}$

$3$\displaystyle{=2{\text{BM}}^{\text{2}}+2\left({ { \text{MH} }^{\text{2}}+{ \text{AH} }^{2} }\right)}$

$3$\displaystyle{ =2{ \text{BM} }^{\text{2}}+2{ \text{AM} }^{\text{2}} }$

（∵三平方の定理より， $3$\displaystyle{{\text{MH}}^{\text{2}}+{\text{AH}}^{2}={\text{AM}}^{2}}$ ）
